American Foreign Policy and Political Ambitions

U.S. foreign policy has a huge impact on the world. That impact is widely debated among Americans and by people in many countries. This Module is designed to gain more understanding of what U.S. foreign policy is, who makes it, why is it the way it is, and how it affects the rest of the world.

Professional experience

Current: Director for Special Projects and Senior Fellow at the McCain Institute for International Leadership in Washington, an expert on European security and transatlantic relations
Previous experience: Ronald D. Asmus Policy Entrepreneur Fellow at the German Marshall Fund;
Resident Senior Fellow at the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security at the Atlantic Council; Visiting Fellow at Center for Transatlantic Relations at SAIS Johns Hopkins and the European Policy Centre in Brussels Researcher with SIPRI and the Swedish Institute of International Affairs Strategic business advisory services to clients as an advisor to Spitzberg Partners, LLC and as a contributor to Oxford Analytica and IHS Jane’s.

Education

Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service

Other

A native of Sweden, Mr. Brattberg serves on the board of the Washington European Society and the Swedish Atlantic Council and is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). An alumnus of several Young Leader program on both sides of the Atlantic.
His articles and commentary has appeared in The Washington Post, Financial Times, Foreign Policy, Politico, The National Interest, The American Interest, The Daily Beast, The Atlantic Monthly, Berlin Policy Journal and Newsweek. He is a frequent expert commentator to major news outlets on both sides of the Atlantic, including Al Jazeera America, BBC News, Bloomberg TV, CNBC, Deutsche Welle, France 24 and Voice of America.
